What I was going to do before I decided to install Windows on my wife's laptop was to use Nat32 on my laptop. I'm thinking what you could do is create your own NAT router on a Windows box. However, it's worth a shot for people with other phones to try and see if this method would work with their manufacturer's USB drivers.

I'm not sure how this would work with a Nexus phone, since I believe the Motorola USB drivers have a part to play. I forgot to mention my find is for Motorola phones. So far, it's running great for me and my wife. Then connect to your wifi hotspot and test out your internet speed. Plug in your phone via USB and tell your computer to do nothing with the device (as opposed to using it as mass storage or something). Add the DefaultTTL parameter and set it to 66 instead of 65. Don't root your phone, don't use a VPN-which usually slows down a connection anyways. If you're running Windows 10, I would try the following. her Internet is now blazing at 10 to 20 mbps. I changed hers to match mine, rebooted, plugged in the phone via USB, and voila. So, I checked all of her settings and mine, and I realized the only difference is my TTL setting was 66 and hers was 65. I pretty much did everything what I did, but her computer kept getting throttled to the hotspot limit. I figured she needed the Motorola USB drivers to get this trick to work, so I had to install Windows 10, like what I'm running. But, here's where the story gets a bit interesting. So, I don't know what to make of all that. I don't have USD debugging enabled, nor is the phone rooted. It seems to be faster when I keep it plugged in, but unplugged, it is still fast. So, I plugged my phone back in via USB and it instantly went turbo boost. I wasn't sure if plugging in the phone via USB had anything to do with it, but the next day, my hotspot connection got throttled back to around 0.7 to 0.9 mbps. So, I unplugged my phone, and it was still that fast. I checked my internet speed and holy cow, I was getting 10 to 20 mbps! I thought this was a fluke. Once I plugged in my phone via USB, the internet hotspot got instantly faster. I installed the Motorola USB drivers, and then plugged in my phone. I was getting all the necessary software. Then, I decided I was going to root the phone. So, after more reading of this thread, I changed my TTL to 66. I set DefaultTTL to 65, removed IPv6 on the wlan connection, and also used my WindScribe VPN which I hadn't touched in a long time. So I went on here to try some things out. The hotspot feature effing sucked and was nearly useless for me and my wife's laptops. I got a Moto G6 Play just recently and signed up with Verizon's Unlimited $75/month plan.
So, I've been following this thread and have some interesting updates.
